Just before 2pm Rescue Fire Company was alerted for a structure fire on Stone Boundary road. As units responded a large column of smoke was visible. Most of Station 1 equipment just cleared the 2 alarm house fire in Madison. Linkwood-Salem Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. was standing by at Station 1 along with a crew for Engine 1-2 who were the closest units to respond.
Engine 1-2 arrived first, with fire showing from an approximate 30x50 shop/shed. As hand lines (hose’s) were being deployed one of the exposure buildings also caught on fire. This was a large 2.5 story farm house with a basement that was vacant. Once on location Chief 1-2 established command and started the working fire task force and a 2nd alarm.
With the location of the incident being in a rural area a tanker task force was also requested. This alerted tankers from as far as Greenwood Delaware.
Command placed units on scene in a defensive operation for both structures as the fire was progressing rapidly. Along with request for multiple brush trucks for a field/brush fire that was also a result of the building fire.
Units operated on scene for approximately 4 hours, ultimately a risk assessment was completed and it was determined to go from defensive operations to a controlled burn. |
